Moudawana reforms in Morocco Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Moudawana reforms in Morocco - Research Paper ExampleWo workforce play a major authority in the family dynamics in Morocco as they help form the structure of the society. Initially, Moroccan women had fewer privileges to know in the family. They were treated as inferiors and the men around them do all family decisions. While women were restricted from divorcing their husbands, men were allowed to break up with their wives without their consent. Women could not connect without the approval of their guardians, and when married, they were to obey their husbands. On the other hand, men could marry as many wives as they wanted without any approval from their wives. In other words, women were treated as objects. When the Moudawana reform movement was adopted in 1958, these unjust justnesss continued to prevail as women had no defend over their marriage life. Some sluice argued that acquire married was the end of a womans life because if she was unfortunate and faced hardships, she did not have an easy way out. All this started to change, when the Womens Action center was formed and decided to sweep out these injustices against women. This union catalyzed the reform to play its full part in the fight. This was the start of the Moudawana Reforms in Morocco. Prior to the formation of this union, the reform movement governed the family laws but gave few privileges to women. The governed areas by the law included child custody, inheritance, divorce and marriage. Men enjoyed many privileges and saw traditional laws as an opportunity to prohibit women. The same laws made life unbearable for women and bound the reforms. This paper will focus on the contributions made by women and especially the Islam activists in Moudawana reforms. The efforts made by different organizations led by women activists would also be highlighted. Moudawanna as a national Issue The Moudawana law suppressed women as it gave them limited opportunities to enjoy their rights. The briny goal of the activists as argued earlier was to ensure that women were treated with fairness in the society. This was a fight against monocracy as defined by Childress. It is defined as the type of ruling used by rulers to break down their women. In this case, women were the oppressed group. Regarding women as the main element making up the family and eventually the society, they had to have privileges in life. Men could make any decision in their marriage without the consent of their wives. On the side of women, even the least decisions, for example deciding who to get married to and when, needed a guardians intervention. Women were getting married at the tender age of 15 while instead they should have been in schools studying. This shows that women were disadvantaged of their human rights (Bran 276). As argued by Bayat, resource mobilization theory, collective behavior approach, and crowd theory were necessary. No single woman could push for the reforms on her own efforts. This calle d for an imagined solidarity in which women had to come together and create repair actions that had to be followed (890). Imagined solidarity was a situation in which different people or groups visualized to have connatural interests even though they fought using different strategies but headed to the same goal. Similarly, Childress argues that social, community-based, coalitional, and organizational movements played a major role in the entire reforms. This was because with the political parties in place, activists saw community-based movement as the best (1). The joust to support this was that people were heard the most when they are together. The main goal of the activists in the reform was to mold the government to treat women more equally, just as they treated men. Their main goal could not be reached by the activists words only, and they needed support from as many Moroccans as possible so that it would be easier to prove to the government that the Moroccans indeed demanded for change. Engaging many Moroccans into the idea of reforms was done through the 1 million-signature supplicant

Speaker's response for Sports management class Essay - 1

Speakers response for Sports management class - Essay ExampleThe first was round starting in the business. The speaker was able to articulate the difficulty of not knowing what to do or universe clueless about the job. I found that lawyers like the speaker tend to work at on rent and facility issues, insurance, sponsorship and tax (Bhardwaj 2011). His perspective on how to address that situation is practical and something that I will ph whiz if faced in the same dilemma. He said that one should be calm about it and access it in a holistic and objective manner. I believe he wants a certain take aim of detachment that would enable him to focus, learn and avoid mistakes. The idea is get past the jitters, the ignorance and other work-related related pressures. I would like to point out the issue regarding the alignment of interest. The speaker stressed that people should not engrave the sports entertainment business because he loves sports. ... Essentially, lawyers deal with the law and with documents regardless of where he works. But he was dejected working for corporations. There is a discrepancy when he clearly thrived and excelled in the sports management business. Obviously, he is a sports fan. This factor must contribute to a workers motivation. A business manager and his counterpart who loves sports would have radically different approach in an issue because the latter would be more involved and passionat e about it. I feel that this issue needed further clarifications. Where you do stand on a moot issue? One of the controversial issues in sports entertainment management is the focus on profit. Sports managers tend to conform to organizational success as inevitable offshoot of single-minded pursuit for profit. I am against this wholeheartedly. I believe that this position is valid for several reasons. First is that America has very strong ties with sports and that its management is approximately within the realm of public interest. According to Kelly, sports has occupied a major role in modern font society, as element of the economy, spectacle with symbolic meanings and an arena of human development (226). A purely commercial organization could get away with greed for profit but the fans will never condone its pursuit if they hypothesise that the management and sports administration is harming the sports or their teams or making inappropriate sports decisions in favor of more mo ney. This is back up by the fact that sports and its leading figures are considered product brands. Any inappropriate management decision stooge damage them and the public could simply cease patronizing. Baker and Esherik (2013) maintained that sports is still a profit-based organization

An analysis f Jevons' Theory of Women's Employment Essay

An analysis f Jevons possibleness of Womens Employment - Essay ExampleOn the contrary, mens participation in the labor commercialise has never been challenged by proponents of the neoclassical tradition. Such assumptions push economists to view women as dependent beings. This essay discusses Jevonss theory of womens trading, and the inherent flaws of his arguments. Overview According to Pigou, the primary basis of womens work is the labor stipend of their husband. Likewise, Becker argues that women look for employment because of a household decision (as cited in Gupta, 2000). The question is, does the decision to look for employment a personal choice of women? Apparently such an assumption prevents one from wondering why women go by on workings when their salaries are very unreasonable such a decision may stag an unproductive use of their capabilities and women are prohibited by market forces to maximize benefits or returns to their personal coronation (e.g. education). The p articipation of women in the labor market is not viewed as a positive input to scotch progress it is rather seen as creating unfavorable outcomes for household work and national interest. Edgeworth cautioned that a huge macrocosm of women in the labor market would lead to depression or debacle of industry, a debacle, at last ruinous alike to wealth and family life (Kuiper & Sap, 1995, 19). However, one of the most fervent critics of womens employment is William Stanley Jevons. He warns about the effect of employment on the household responsibilities of women and on rates of infant mortality. Paradoxically, the solutions to such dilemmas identify by the so-called free market economists are largely influenced by draconian exponentiation in current labor market situations. Edgeworth supported the strengthening of barriers to womens employment, and Marshall backed up the mill Acts. Jevons was harsher, supporting the legalization of the total omission of mothers of children aged thr ee and below from factories (Kuiper & Sap, 1995, 19-20). Likewise, where Pigou supported state involvement to remedy market malfunction in the employment sector, women were openly excluded. Specifically, Jevons argued that mothers of young children should be prohibited from working in factories, a rule which is thought to guarantee that childrens right and welfare were safeguarded. In 1882 Jevons called this root word matter the employment of child-bearing women away from home as the most important question touching the comparison of the State to labor which remains unsolved (Peart, 1996, 143). Because the participation of these women in the labor market discarded infants to that affright of infant life, the dirty fungus-bearing bottle (Peart, 1996, 143), it was obvious that comprehensive policy was needed. The ills related to oppressive policy were in this case overbalanced by the infanticide that arose from unhindered action (Ege & Igersheim, 2011, 97) The objection may no doub t be made, that the animadversion of childbearing women from works in public factories would be a new and extreme case of incumbrance with the graphic liberty of the individual But I venture to maintain that all these supposed natural entities, principles, rules, theories, axioms, and the like, are at the best but presumptions or probabilities of good. There is, on the whole, a certain

When the child becomes 18 years old, the parents are no longer obligated to have rights to access the childs personal records.Childrens Internet Protection Act (CIPA) is also engineered to the protection of children. Children are to be protected physically and mentally while in the care of school professionals. Schools must have policies in place protecting children from accessing harmful or obscene content o ver the internet. This law requires that K-12 schools and libraries in the United States map Internet filters and implement other measures to protect children from harmful online content as a condition for federal official funding. The Child Online Protection Act (COPPA) applies to the online collection of personal information by persons or entities under U.S. legal power from children under 13 years of age. It details what a website operator must include in a silence policy, when and how to seek verifiable consent from a parent or guardian, and what responsibilities an operator has to protect childrens privacy and safety online including restrictions on the marketing to those under 13. While children under 13 can legally give out personal information with their parents permission, many websites disallow underagechildren from using their services altogether collectible to the amount of cash and work involved in the law compliance.SarbanesOxley (SOX) set new or deepen standards fo r all U.S. habitual company boards, management and public accounting firms. The sections of the bill cover responsibilities of a public corporations board of directors, adds criminal penalties for certain misconduct, and required the Securities and Exchange Commission to create regulations to define how public corporations are to comply with the law.

Flowers for Algernon - Qualities That Surpass Intelligence Essay Example for Free

Flowers for Algernon Qualities That Surpass Intelligence canvassFlowers for Algernon, is a classic novel written by Daniel Keyes a young mentally challenged man named Charlie Gordon. This agree chronicles, from a first person point of view, Charlies mental and physical struggles and achievements after undergoing a find procedure that is hoped to render him intelligent. Throughout the book, much of the focus is on Charlies academic progress magical spell his emotional and personal development is non much of a concern. This becomes a problem because Charlie realizes that it is master(prenominal) to present qualities other than light to lead a intent that is oth happy and successful. Qualities sh protest to be more important than cognizance in Flowers for Algernon atomic number 18 patience, charity and jimmy. Throughout Flowers for Algernon, patience is often shown to be a more important quality in character than cognition. Starting from the beginning when Charlie was still mentally challenged, people never seemed to be patient with him. If they had taken the time to get to know and understand him they would shake up seen that he had a frank heart and genuine personality. This also applies to our everyday life.We must be patient and try to understand others in advance we begin to judge them. Charlie also demonstrated the negative consequences of a lack of patience when his intelligence began to return that of those around him, I was afraid it would come to this, but I have no patience with her now. Im jealous of every moment away from the work- impatient with anyone(Keyes 295). You can clearly see that delinquent to his lack of patience with anyone around him, he is in a state of upset and distress. That is how patience is shown to be more important than ntelligence in this novel.Kindness is another quality shown to surpass intelligence in companionship of importance in Flowers for Algernon. Simply creation kind to others can get you far in life and change others views and opinions of you in a positive way. This is shown when Alice tells Charlie what made him such a great person in the beginning he had the operation, There was something in you before. I dont know a warmth, an openness, a kindness that made everyone like you and like to have you around. (Keyes 122). Being kind moderates both yourself and others feels good. While everyone may not be able to solve an algebraic equation or understand Shakespeare, we can all interpret, include and appreciate kindness in all its forms. This is why kindness is shown to be a more of import quality than intelligence in Flowers for Algernon. A third quality shown to be more important than intelligence in Flowers for Algernon is respect. Everyone wants to be valued and respected and when you behave in this way towards others, it is often reciprocated. Everyone should learn to respect each other for who they are and not try to change them. Each person is an individual with th eir own thoughts and feelings and we can not change them. In the novel, a bakery employee stresses the importance of respect when the other workers make fun of Charlie, He cant help what he is but for Gods sake, have some respect Hes a human being (Keyes 199). Charlie also often feels that he is not being respected as a human being and that he is just being treated as an experiment. This has a negative impact on him and also demonstrates the importance of respect. Those are the ways that respect is shown to be a ore valuable quality than intelligence in this novel. If one looks between the lines in the novel Flowers for Algernon, they will interpret many messages and take away valuable lessons from it. One of which is that there are qualities that are much more valuable and important than intelligence. The qualities that are shown to be more important than intelligence in Flowers for Algernon are patience, kindness and respect. By possessing and utilizing these qualities a person c an lead both a happy and successful life and better the lives of those around them.

Chart and Reflection Essay Example for Free

Chart and Reflection raiseThe Somebody-Wanted-But-So chart is an excellent way to summarize important information from history. In it, you identify a somebody or group of people their goal, need, or want what conflict of interest stood in the way and the outcome. This dodge works great because history dep extirpates on the needs, wants, and actions of humans. Part 1 Complete the following chart utilize information from the lesson. One example appears for you. Somebody Wanted But So President Abraham Lincolnthe community to heal as quickly as possible from the cultured War and planned to reunify the state quickly he was assassinated in 1865 only days after Robert E. The reconstruction policy came to an end after the federal troops were removed from the south. Part 2 Answer the following questions in a complete paragraph of your own words. What was themain issue relating to Reconstruction that divided Republicans at the end of the Civil War? If you had been a member of Congress at the time, what type of plan for Reconstruction would you have back up and why? There were many different opinions which had divided Republicans at the end of the Civil War. One of these opinions was slightly th e punishment that confederate leaders should receive. Whether the confederate leaders should be punished as traitors or secure pay for damages was the main topic of interest. I probably would have supported Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnsons plan for Reconstruction. They sought a perfect unification of America which was the ideal way to end things. It wasnt their fault that the plan didnt work either, if it wasnt for Lincolns assassination and the Radical Republicans taking the policy from Johnson, tout ensemble would have been well.

Bioinformatics for geneticists Essay Example for Free

Bioinformatics for communicableists EssayBioinformatics is a recently evolved field in biology. The definition is still evolving solely in essence, bioinformatics is the computational branch of molecular biology (Claverie 2007, p. 9). This is beca substance abuse the field unifys computer technology and information treat systems to combine biologic info and try out biological problems. The primary aim of this new field is the ascertainment of biological insights and establishment of a global view to support a unified understanding of concepts in biology. This ready application in heritable science by addressing the pauperization for a entropybase containing large volumes of biological information, especially on gene successions. Eventually, bioinformatics allowed geneticalists to access available entropy on genetics and combine new selective information for abbreviation to support continuity of experience building on genetics. (National Center for Biotechnology Inf ormation 2004) Bioinformatics Challenges for the familialist Bioinformatics create a number of scraps for geneticists. The aim of bioinformatics is three-fold.First is storage of large bulks of information in accessible entropybases. Second is the education and application of computer systems to support digest. Third is the development of computer systems allowing version of analysed data in a biologically meaningful manner. (Luscombe, Greenbaum Gerstein 2001) The second and third aims pose challenges for geneticists who need to be adept not notwithstanding in accessing but besides in developing and use information system tools in analysing and rendering data in the context of genetic research.Having existing information in a database is useless without the competency to access specific data and integrate this with new data as well as analyse and interpret these in the context of the particular genetic research. Bioinformatics Needs of divisorticists Bioinformatics suppor ts the needs of geneticists. One justification for computational systems in genetic research is to develop a global view of experimental instauration to integrate research efforts and results in diverse countries. This is required to link and bring together all existing knowledge on variant areas of genetic research, especially nucleic and amino acid sequences. Another justification for bioinformatics in genetics research is database dig to facilitate the generation and testing of hypothesis on the functions and structures of gene and proteins by using available data as framework (Barnes gray 2003) Managing and Manipulating brokertic Data Generally, there are twain ways of managing and manipulating data. One is the use of software product. A number of software emerged supporting the development genetic gene linkage maps and other purposes.Although software varies in function, the common aim is to aid in understanding genetic linkage information and automating the research p rocess to support effective map building. (Weaver et al. 1992) The other is network systems comprised of a database and approachability finished network connections. Networks allow geneticists to access available information such(prenominal) as on genetic markers so they can combine this with new data for synopsis and interpretation. This supports the continuity of global genetics research. (Cheung et al. 1996) economic value of BioinformaticsThe essence of bioinformatics to genetic research is innovativeness and huge voltage in developing novel approaches to genetics research. Bioinformatics has the potential to analyse and interpret data not only for purposes of completing the research purpose but also for the practical purpose of usefulness in diagnosis or therapy. (Jones Phillip 2000) The potential of bioinformatics in translating genetic data into practical solutions for actual biological problems accounts for the expected increase in the value of the bioinformatics market to billions of dollars in the attached five years ( mankind Bioinformatics Market 2008).Bioinformatics for Genetic Study Designs and Analysis Bioinformatics allowed the development of better workplace designs and analysis for genetic research that address previous methodological problems. Genetics and bioinformatics both adhere to collaborative investigations. Genetic research necessitates phenotypes and researcher expertise in mapping or sequencing studies while bioinformatics depends on high feeling databases as well as access and integration tools and expertise. (Schmidt 2003) Collaborative designs constitute a common challenge in genetics and bioinformatics. With bioinformatics, problem credit in research focuses on testing hypothesis such as gene identification in cancer research or linking new and previous data such as on mutations. Data gathering is through data mining by intrusive sundry(a) databases using the Internet and networks. Data is then subject to integration and organisation according to the biological problem studied such as combining data on protein structure with its properties and functions contained in dissimilar databases. Data analysis considers breadth and depth.Breadth refers to uninflected processes comparing genes using algorithms while depth pertains to the decision protein encoding of a particular gene. Tools such as clay sculpture and simulation support data interpretation and presentation. (Luscombe et al. 2001) In the case of gene expression research, this required the efficient analysis of microarrays and population. Bioinformatics provided two-colour microarrays as a much effective analytical design by covering twice the number of distant pair design profiles and population.(Fu Jansen 2006) In cancer epidemiology research, bioinformatics supported the integration of genetic susceptibility factors to create innovative call for designs (Malats Castano-Vinyals 2007). Non-Coding ribonucleic acid Bioinformatics Bio informatics plays an important fictitious character in non-coding RNA research. Hiro et al. (2006) explained that non-coding RNA genes have weak statistical signals and the potential of bioinformatics addresses this bound by providing systems of searching and predicting non-coding RNA. Huang et al.(2008) discussed that bioinformatics can support non-coding RNA search through CYK-type and covariance programs but there is need to improve further programs to accommodate arbitrary RNA structures. Bioinformatics and Cancer Genetics Bioinformatics supports genetic research on cancer. Kato and Kato (2006) reported that that bioinformatics supports cancer research through omics data functions to support knowledge on genetic biomarkers relate to cancer including predisposition, diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic markers using data and text mining programs.Barnes and Gray (2007) explained the contributions of bioinformatics to cancer genetics as cancer genomes, cancer genetics design, cancer gene mutations, and other breakthroughs. Bioinformatics and Gene Identification Biotechnology importantly contributes to the identification of disease genes by allowing the management of large bulks of data including DNA sequences and microarray data in identifying genetic functions that cause diseases.Chen and Chen (2008) explained the role of bioinformatics in linking genes and disease outcomes through gene identification algorithms incorporates into analytical software. Algorithms direct calculation and data processing by providing a sequence of instructions in handling data. Tu et al. (2006) discussed the use of the network-based stochastic algorithm in inferring disease causing genes and identifying regulatory pathways. Bioinformatics in Single Gene Orders and Mutations Bioinformatics is also useful in studying single gene orders and mutations to ascertain genetic causes of monogenic diseases.Barnes and Gray (2007) explained that the data storage and processing solutio ns of bioinformatics led to outcomes such as the genome-wide map of monogenic diseases, understanding of the temper of mutations in single gene orders, and implications of epigenetics on Mendelian traits. Cooper, Stenson and Chuzhanova (2006) explained that bioinformatics support studies of single gene orders and mutations via the Human Gene Mutation Database (HGMD) that contains a wide range of information on nuclear genes, particularly germ-line mutations that are associated with familial diseases. In 2005, the database contained 53,000 lesions together with data on DNA sequences, splice junction, and polymorphisms. The database provides core data with which new data is combined to build knowledge on monogenic diseases. Bioinformatics and Genetic Data Mining Bioinformatics supports data mining and analysis in genetics research. Wang et al. (2005) explained that bioinformatics support genetic data mining and analysis through various databases on areas of genetic studies such as the gene mutation databases as well as software or programs operating through context-based algorithms. This enables analytical processes, to integrate genetic data, via clustering methods for microarrays, comparison of DNA structures, identification of sequence characteristics, discovering disease markers, indexing of pathways and sequences, among others analytical outcomes. Geneticists can select which algorithmic tool in bioinformatics to use in managing and analysing particular data involved in the study or integrating data from various databases. Since bioinformatics continues to evolve, new analytical tools would evolve to address current problems in data mining and analysis for genetic research. The National Center for Biotechnology Information (2004) identified two breakthrough contributions of bioinformatics in genetic data mining and analysis. One is protein modelling. DNA sequences can encode proteins with particular functions but protein structures cannot be visually seen usi ng x-ray crystallography or nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy making it difficult to study protein encoding. Bioinformatics allows protein modelling to visualize proteins in three-dimensions and by using templates enables the prediction of structures of similar proteins. The other is genomic mapping for the management of sequence information, which is painstaking when manually made. Bioinformatics provide maps to guide geneticists in pointing the precise location of gene sequences. Bioinformatics in alter Genetic look Schmidt (2003) explained that bioinformatics improve genetic research by providing evolving and improving means of managing data explosion. Research advancements resulted to large data on nucleotide sequences comprising DNA and amino acid sequences comprising proteins stored in databases around the world. However, manually pulling out data for use in succeeding studies and analysing vast data takes time. Manual study of outputs has become tedious. Bioinformatics improve genetic research by allowing geneticists to search databases for the gene composition, proteins and mutations as well as model the chemical and structural compositions of living cells to support various health implications such as cancer and drug studies. A researcher cannot be familiar with every known genetic interaction, so that bioinformatics becomes necessary in managing and interpreting systems-level information. ConclusionBioinformatics has transformed the field of biology, particularly genetics, by providing approaches, processes and tools to ease the difficulties of managing and analysing large bulks of data that have accumulated over decades of genetic research. Bioinformatics has made genetics an information and practice science from earlier a laboratory-based science. Furthermore, the continuously evolving field of biometrics holds the potential to facilitate further advancements in genetics through the development of new software, algorithms, and processes usef ul in filling research gaps in genetics. However, geneticists play an important role in directing and enhancing the role of bioinformatics in genetics. This requires geneticists to understand bioinformatics to develop data processing and analytical tools addressing the different needs in various areas of genetic research. References Barnes, M. R,. Marriage and Dowry Essay Example for Free

conjugation and Dowry EssayWo homosexual a daughter, a sister, a wife and a grandmother, throughout her support she dreams of having a wonderful life, a life to enter to it that her marks in the school will invite her parents happy, a life to see to it that her husband stays healthy, a life to see to it that her children study for their exams and a life to die seeing others happy. She cares for others, more than herself, then why we see her so much dangerous in every moment of her life. So numerous issues to talk about women, rape being the almost popular issue on women in the present cartridge clip, almost only the women, in India, are unprotected to this offence. But just uni course of instruction rape, the dowry brass has affected the women psychologically, physically and emotionally. The dowry system kills her alike a slow poison. The custom of dowry, in India, has spread through the hierarchy of social stratification. Several feminists kindle that the practice was initially adopted by the upper castes, then over a period of time it has been passed down into lower castes, and change surfacetually reaches the untouchables, the outcasts. As the sociological studies suggests, often lower groups intend to copy in that respect dominant group in there society.India ranks 136, in Human Development Index, among 187 counties around the world. This show, the people in India are in very bad condition and more than half of the population lives in poverty. The dry land for poverty in India, if we look historically, it is because of the caste system, which restricted half of the population, in India, to develop, as even in present time 66% of Dalits are unworthy, and if we look in present time, education has deprived the poor from getting a better standards of living. It is these poorer sections as well as the middle class of our country who, non being educated and having good standard of living are still governed by old usage and traditions and co ntinue to practise the dowry system, were in the name of gifting the groom the brides family is put into debt. But even in m some(prenominal) rich families too, this system is being followed, even though they are well educated. The sums of gold and goods involved, as dowry, are often so large that the payment can lead to vicious oscillation of debt in the bridal family. This has a very bad effect on the lives of unmarried women who are considered as economic liabilities by their parents, this leads to preference of boy over girl, leading to female infanticide and among the married women they are physically and mentally harmed by their husbands and his family members, if promised dowry are not forthcoming. Modernization in India has became a barrier to many customs to be continued, like the caste system, the child marriage etc.but modernization has likewise lead to increase in practise of certain customs which were restricted to certain communities, as mentioned above. When we see caste, dowry and modernization, they are all inter linked with each other. With modernization, individual is not restricted to do his caste occupation and has chances to have good standard of living. Since new income and earning opportunities, brought about by modernization, are predominantly filled by men, there price tag of dowry increased. After analysing the historical developments of dowry system among the people in India, who are governed under Hindu law, now let us look at the Moslems, who are the 2nd largest population in India. Despite the fact that Islams beauty lies in repose and it recommends simple marriage, some transgressions such as dowry have crept into Muslim society in a wide range. When we look through Quran, we come across Mahr. According to mahr it is a mandatory payment, in the form of money or possessions paid by the groom, or by grooms father, to the bride at the time of marriage that lawfully becomes brides property. But as time has passed by, Muslims ha ve changed their character and are following their Hindu counterparts in demanding and offering dowry both, in heavy cash and kind. The competition among the rich and well-to-do section of the Muslim community to reserve a good match for their daughters for whatever the demand is, has increased. Education has hardly has any influence on the minds of the people in respect of dowry. On the contrary, a highly educated man expects a higher amount of dowry, just as it happens among the Hindus. The violence committed on women, for dowry, has increased in recent times. If we observe properly, as to why this dowry violence takes place, we can see a broader picture. The creator for dowry is mainly because the women are seen as less productive than man, concept of dowry itself shows that ones gender determines ones worth. The roots of this deficiency can be seen were even a bride, who may be well educated and earning than her husband, will still have to pay the dowry price, just like the oth er bride who is not educated and not earning. And in some instances too, were even if demands for dowry were to be well-to-do fully, young women would continue to face torture and harassment in their in-laws homes because of womens custom-sanctioned-inferiority. Dowry deaths are showcase of patriarchal authority. In some cases, the patriarchal authority expresses itself by murdering the young women by burning with lamp oil (most frequent in urban areas) or drowning (common in rural areas).Other methods employed to murder complicate poisoning and physical battery. These facts and historical development shows that it is because of the disrespect and uncultured behaviour that we show towards women, has lead to female infanticide, uneducated girls, sexual harassment, dowry system, heavy debt in brides family and domestic violence. Let us all respect women, and treat them has equals, because only this solution, will lead to abolishment of many social evils against women.

Future Life Reading EssayFirst, I can bump into a man and a woman walking into view from the bottom left hand of the image, diagonally across the scene to the top right. They are holding hands as they walk. She is wearing a very light and airy thin materialed flowing white dress I cannot see her pilus color. She is a thin woman. The man, as they are walking is pointing things out to the woman, things in the distance. He seems to speak a lot about the things he is pointing at. He has black hair and is wearing a shirt or a jacket that reminds me of Star Trek TNG, or other(a) similar sci-fi attire, goldish in color and about sparkly the edges a 2 (at least) thick line of slightly lighter color around the outside edges of the garment. The setting come alongs to be sand in color, Egypt would be the shutdownst reference from here on earth, and the sunniness is shining. There are others around, but not immediately close-by to this couple. (To note As I was writing this, at abo ut 1030 am Eastern Standard Time, I got a very reinforced smell of beer. I do not get to any beer in my home.)Second, I got a close up image of a womans face/head. She has moderately long dark hair, and wears what appear to be thick-lensed glasses. She is sitting in some sort of layered seating such as in an auditorium, arena, or university classroom. She is holding a pen or pencil in her right hand in the midst of her fingers, constantly moving her hand around as she speaks to a person seated to her right. I call up the person she is speaking with is male, adult, but I cannot see him. All the while, she is watching and listening to what is going on in front of her. She was wearing a light colored long-sleeved thin blouse.Third, it started with an upside-down workboot. Behind this workboot, watery in the image of a garage or auto shop. The room looked large, but only seemed to have 1 garage door. The boot faded as other images came into view. In this garage, there is now a car at the far wall, directly across from theopen door, which has 2 people on the other side of it. One man, which is clearly visible, is the focus of the scene. This man is older, white or very light hoary hair, and he is wearing an orange t-shirt. This man is close to 6-feet tall from the look of it. The other man with him is corresponding a shadow figure, never coming into view enough to see him, only enough to see that he is there he is shorter than the older man.The older gentleman in the orange shirt is looking at over toward another part of this room and seems to be arguing with someone. He doesnt look well-chosen at all. I cannot see the person he is arguing with, however, I get the feeling that he is arguing with his wife over something as he is getting ready to leave to go somewhere. instantly outside the garage door, I can see pavement and grass to the side, and there looks to be a fence next to the grass. On the grass, I see something largely red with blue, definitely a claws toy it looks like it may be a small wagon or decorate truck, but I cant see for sure. There is something else to the left of this object but I cannot make it out either Im guessing a tricycle.

The Bicycle Thief Essay Example for Free

The bike Thief EssayThe Bicycle Thief is probably the best known and most highly praised of wholly the Italian Neorealist films of its era. The films of the Neorealist movement were characterized by several primary ideas. Instead of featuring stories focusing on glitz and glamour, Neorealist films concent position on the poor and the working class. Instead of building and fabricating complex sets to film on, they did their filming on location. And interpolatenatively of trying to get the most well known, highly paid celebrity actors, they frequently used wad that werent even professional actors and had no training for their starring roles. This every helped lend a aesthesis of realism and weight to the stories. The Bicycle Thief takes place in Rome during a period where the unemployment rate was high and men struggled to support their families. In the film, an unemployed man, Antonio Ricci (played by factory worker Lamberto Maggiorani, in received Neorealist fashion), se curees a lucky break and manages to land a production line pasting up posters around the city. The only catch is that he needs to own a bike. Being that he already sold his bike to a pawn shop for much needed cash, his wife sells all the bed sheets from their home to scrounge up just enough m iodiny to get the bike back. Theres a great accident in this scene where we see an enormous shelf containing hundreds of sheets a subtle way of showing us that the protagonist is just one of many in similar desperate situations.Antonio gets his bike back and starts his job the next day. Unfortunately, just like in real life, things usually dont go as planned. While hes gluing up a poster, a hoodlum dashes by, snags his bike, and takes off with it. Antonio desperately chases after(prenominal) the man, knowing that if he loses his bike, he loses his job, and his family will starve. Try as he might however, the thief manages to escape. He reports the theft to the police, confident that they can help him recover it, but they basically tell him to go opinion for it himself. The film actually tries to highlight the social and moral landscape of the time if youre at the basis of the totem pole, youre either a target or just one of the faceless millions to be ignored. With no other choice, Antonio takes to the streets and searches for his bike for hours, but comes up empty handed. The scene where he and his give-and-take are caught in the rain, soaked and downtrodden, as all around him people on their bikes are riding away really makes poignant the hopelessness of his situation. After trying everything he can think of to get any leads on the thief or the location of his bike, go so far as to even spend what minute money he has left on a fortune teller, he happens to bump into the thief in question walking down the street. He chases and finally corners him, but the thief refuses to confess anything and his family and friends defend him from the savage Antonio. The cops arr ive, and yet again, they are of no help. They cant do anything for Antonio as he has no cover evidence of the crime.Pushed to the final point of desperation, Antonio realizes he has no choice left but to stoop to the worst level and steal a bike if he doesnt want his family to starve. He tries to snatch one but is almost immediately taken down by witnesses and held until the police arrive. Seeing Antonios son distraught and in tears, the man doesnt press charge and lets him off the hook. Antonio and his son walk off, both of them in tears, completely hopeless and beaten by society at every turn. This is what Italian Neorealism is all about. For millions upon millions of people living in poverty, real life doesnt have a happy end. No matter how hard you struggle, sometimes theres ultimately nothing you can do to alter your fate. And The Bicycle Thief really shows an extremely poignant example of this in the small vignette of Antonios life.

The Role of the Wo hands in Greek Mythology EssayIn the text Mythology by Edith Hamilton, wo manhoodpower are portrayed as being property and objects. During this time wo workforce were seen to be not as good as hands. They axiom perfection in relationships between men and young male adults as the best relationships to feel. However, homosexuality was frowned upon. custody were considered knowledgeable and educated, but women were seen as a burden placed on objet d wile by the Gods. When it came to women aught was valuable ab divulge them but their beauty. When a woman was stunning she was wanted by many men a man would do almost anything to have the possession of a beautiful woman and have her as his property. It was as if a womans role was to only be a mans beautiful possession and to procreate the lineage of a male or if he had a daughter, the means to secure power through marriage. Atalanta a character from the text Mythology, was a beautiful inaugural who was the daughter of the king. When her father saw that he had been given a girl instead of a son he was genuinely bitter and disappointed, she was then left on a mountain side. From this, one place assume that men did not feel girls were worthy of being raised and taken care of in place of having boys.Instead of dying, she was taken care of by a she-bear, and she grew up to be a very fast, daring girl. Atalanta vowed to stay a virgin and would never get married. She was not enkindle in men except for as companions in hunting. However, many men found her to be beautiful and then became interested in marrying her. Because of this attention Atalanta then came up with a figure. Thus, Atalanta decided she would have all the suitors race her, and whoever won the race would be her husband. If the suitors in the race were lapped by Atalanta or they lost, then they would be killed.Even on such hard conditions many men took the chance of risking their lives just to marry her and have her as their wife. Although she out ran many men, men would still attempt this race for her hand in marriage. In other spoken language men did not see women as being worth anything unless they were she beautiful, therefore making her a mans prize possession. Furthermore, among the rest of the suitors was a man named Hippomenes who was favored by Aphrodite, the immortaldess of love. Aphrodite wanted to help Hippomenes and gave him trine golden apples. He used these apples to make Atalanta stop running to see what he had dropped. By drop these apples he had then gained the chance to catch up to her. After dropping all the apples, Hippomenes had won the race, and the devil were married. The suitor went through so much to marry Atalanta that he did not even stop to sound off that he would not have been able to win this race if it was not for the help of a god or goddess. Therefore, after all he had done and risked to win this race, in the end, they both were turned into lions for an patent af front to genus Zeus or Aphrodite (p. 251).In addition to the men dying to have possession of Atalanta, many men also fought and died for a woman named Helen. Helen was considered the most beautiful woman in all of Greece. receivable to her beauty, Helen was then married to the King of Sparta. She served as the Kings beautiful prize and possession. Helens beauty was so everywherewhelming that Theseus and Paris kidnapped her from her husband Menelaus, and took her to Troy. Upset that his possession had been taken, the king then sent hundreds of his Greek soldiers into struggle with Paris Helen being the main reason for the war known as the Trojan War.These men put their lives on the line and the lives of many others just to have this one woman because of her beauty. This was not the study for just Helen, this had happened to another woman as well. There had also been a quarrel between Achilles and Agamemnon, season debating who would have possession of a woman named Chryseis. Chr yseis was the daughter of Apollos priest the Greek took her and gave her to Agamemnon. Because of this her father went to him to tip for his daughter back but Agamemnon did not want to let her go, the god Agamemnon remarks, but if I set down her who was my prize of honorI will have another in her stead (p. 61).Many men felt as though they had to have the most beautiful women in Greece as their trophies. As a result, a large battle had been created between the Trojans and the Spartans all because of a woman they wanted. Helen sat in her fastness while thousands of men fought and died for her, and no one felt that Helen was the to blame for what was happening. Greek men believed this is what men mustiness fight for, men must fight for such as she for her face was like to that of an immortal notion(p. 263),referring to her not as a person but as a prize or object.Because of Helens adored beauty there were deaths of many heroes, including the Achaeans, Achilles and Ajax, and the Tr ojans, Hector and Paris. They fought for Helen as if she was an object in which they had to have as their property. This also shows what role a womans beauty can have in a Greek mans life. Just as Helen had captured the eyes of many men, resulting in them fighting over her pure beauty, another character named Hera takes advantage of what she could do with her looks. Hera was the wife and one of the three sisters of the god Zeus she was the goddess of women and marriage.Hera uses her beauty to try and change the result of the war in her favor, She went to her chamber and used every art she knew to make herself beautiful beyond compare(p. 268),knowing that Zeus would not resist her lovely looks. Heras plan was to distract Zeus from watching the Trojans defeat the Spartans in the war. By distracting Zeus, the battle would then be below the Greeks control. From this, it is apparent that a woman could always catch a man with her beauty, no matter how strong or focused he would have bee n.It is evident that during this time the main role and terms that characterized a woman were her beauty, which made her a prize possession to any man, and the fact that she could bear children for her male counterpart. Anything that alluded to a female being smart or having talent and not being beautiful was negative in a Greek mans mind. Atalantas father made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with taking care of a female it was stated in the text she was not worthy of being brought up(p. 246), in place of him having a son born to him. Hippomenes showed that he would do just about anything to win Atalanta as his wife and trophy.Menelaus started a war because his most valuable possession, his beautiful wife, who had been taken away from him by another man who desired her just as much as he did. Also, Hera used her beauty to her advantage to distract her husband Zeus from helping the Trojans in the war. through and through these examples one can argue that a womens role in Greek mythology was simple and controlled by being beautiful and a mans prize or possession. Because they found men to be superior over women, women were considered to be only good for their beauty and procreation for the male offspring.

The booby Wars EssayThere are a few reasons why the well-situated alcoholism industry has been historically profit subject for so long. One such reason is that soft drinks have been seen as a peachy and delicious alternative to drinking just water. Soft drinks however are funs, flavorful, and delicious to drink so they give the consumer something else to desire and are bought to weary up the monotony of drinking just plain water. A second reason that the soft drink industry has been historically profitable would be because of the fact that soft drinks have been a cheap obtain for the consumer in comparison to anything else on the market. Policy issues affecting the police Essay Example for Free

Policy issues touch the natural law EssayJust like any other department in the government, the jurisprudence repulse is largely influenced by the policy issues that the government adopts. Be it new laws or strategies, they take a leak to adjust their trading operations so as to fit what the policies dictate. The duty of the police is to maintain law and order and in doing this they get to incorporate policies set by the government. As it will be shown in this paper, these policy issues may run the mapivities of the police push much(prenominal) that they may consider to completely change their modes of operations to fit the governments requirements. some(prenominal) policies concerning police conduct, human rights and police duties be bind been put forward in many forums and conferences addressing issue security. Analysis Unlike in the past where the police had an absolute power, a police officer today may find himself or herself being sued for violation of human rights such(prenominal) as police man submitling or assault (Freund, 2006 Meadows, 2000). There atomic number 18 several(prenominal) policies that have been put forward following revision of several laws which affect the police directly. Policy issues on human rights requiring specific procedures of arrest and handling of suspects have been made. The mavin-fourth amendment has limited police power especially with the private law that protects citizens from unwarranted searches and seizures. This means that before a police officer can search or seize private property, in that respect moldiness be a warrant which is given when the need to search premises is of great importance to protect security. respective(prenominal) liberty and human rights protects citizens from false keep. The fourth amendment comes as a civil li tycoon to the police officers which limits their puzzle outivities since they have to pay attention to avoid breaking the law (Freund, 2006).This has affected the police in that it has limited their ability to obtain as much information as possible concerning a crime. Some officers have overly found themselves in court over what can be referred to as assault during arrest. Perhaps one of the most current policy issues that has affected the police is the governments anti-terrorism policy. A strong policy especially subsequently the 9-11 attacks on the U. S brought out the importance of the need to heighten security to prevent such attacks from misadventure in future. The government aims at keeping the possibility of any terrorist attack which must involve the police (Pleck, 2004). The involvement of the police force in the war against terrorism has led to the need for more discipline on the police officers on incident management and terrorism intelligence. As the government noted, the police force was not well equipped to handle such severe incidents hence the need for prepare on incident management. Again, there the need to develop intel ligence skills to counter any form of panics calls for proper training of the police. In order to ensure that the needs of this policy are met, the government has introduced special training schedules for the police which they have to attend to keep updating them on better skills and intelligence on avoiding terrorism attacks as well as how on how to manage with terrorism incidents if by any chance they occur (Pleck, 2004). conjunction policing is a policy issue that has come up as a result of the need for the residential area to take part in their own security through reporting any suspicious act to the police. This is because the community is at the best position to identify those that live among them (Palmiotto, 2000). The government requires that the police officers work hand in hand with the community so as to curb crime activities in the society. The effect of this on the police is that there has been need for training to help them be able to deal with the community and abe t in identifying between potential danger and normal happenings (Palmiotto, 2000).The police have also been given the tautologic duty of training and educating members of the public on how to identify potential threats within the community and how they can deal with them in conjunction with the police. The community policing mostly focuses on vulnerable groups such as children and women who are apparent to be victims of violence. Policy issues concerning rape have been put forward which has necessitated for trained specialists to handle rape calls as well as interaction between the police and medical practitioners to help in solving such cases (Palmiotto, 2000).The government advocates for attainment in technology for sustainable developments. As a matter of national security, there has been the rising need for the police to upgrade their technology so as to meet the ever change magnitude crime rates. Technology has been used by criminals to steal from numerous citizens and this has raised an issue of concern. Cyber crimes, phishing and identity larceny have been on the rise. The problem with these kinds of crimes is that catching the perpetrators can be quite hard due to the advancement in technology that is used to conduct the crimes.Keeping up with these developments poses a challenge to the police who have to come up with more advanced methods to locate cyber thieves, hackers and identity thieves. More often than not, the police are subject to the laws of prosecution and provision for justice. Policies on the procedures of prosecution highly affect the police. For example, the police are jounce by law to only file a prosecution when there is substantial evidence for the happening of the crime. Different policies exist for different kind of prosecutions. The juvenile justice for example has undergone many changes and new policies have come up following proceedings from various cases. new-fangleds have a wide range of rights and detention of a juvenil e can only be under serious suspicions of delinquency. Proof that is beyond probable doubt must also be established to ensure that the juvenile offender poses a threat to the community (Rick, 2003). Policies on juveniles also require that they be put under preventive detention consort to the standards set by the law (Rick, 2003).This differentiates juvenile offenders from adult ones. The police therefore should pay attention to such details so as to be on the safe side of the law. It is also part of their duties to act according to the laws. Conclusion It is evident that the polices activities are highly influenced by policy issues. The government which also determines the rules of a country constantly comes up with policies for national development. These policies may alter a departments activities or increase its responsibilities depending on how the policy issue is to be tackled. It must also be noted that apart from government policies, from each one police department has its own policies which guide the officers (Miller, 1997). These include the code of ethics that must be followed by the respective officers. Rules on duties rosters, dress code and punishment for police misconduct within the department are strictly followed. Breaking of these laws may result in serious circumstances and hence the police officers must follow them to the letter. Word Count 1179 References Freund, E. (2006). Helping Behaviour Based on Gender, Race and Mobility

back up Behaviour Based on Gender, Race and MobilityHELPING BEHAVIOUR BASED ON GENDER, RACE AND MOBILITYField take on on evaluating aiding demeanor establish on gender, hasten and mobilityRavindran Ramkumar hookThis field study investigated the different factors which influence fostering behaviour in humans. The experimentation is focused on different factors ab break willingness to help others based on gender, race of the victim and mobility of the helper. The past studies provided support for the experiment that indicating there is a cause-effect relationship between the occurrenceal factors, snip pressure and helping behaviour. As Piliavin et al. (1968) focused on all three factors and shows that dispositional factors such as gender are influential as well. In conclusion, situation of the victim, dispositions based on gender and social factors in prioritizing the need are all influential factors, solely because of limitations to the studies this can only be applicable in multicultural countries where race is not peculiar diversity factor. Keywords Gender, racial discrimantion, mobility of the subjects, time pressure.IntroductionProsocial BehaviourProsocial behaviour stems from various motives and helps us attain various goals. For this reason, it is a common and an important aspect of our day-to-day social life. Why do people help? quaternate factors play in influencing whether, and to what extent, people eng progress in prosocial behaviour Many aspects of the situation and several in-person factors are alike determining. Prosocialality is a voluntary behaviour that is carried out to benefit of another individual (Bar-Tal, 1976 Mussen Eisenberg-Berg, 1977). This study focuses on various factors of prosocial behaviour. To this end, we revisit several previous experiments, Wade, Carole Tavris (2000) believed that bystanders should be less helpful in groups than alone. This was explained apply the concept of diffusion of responsibility in which th e outcome is diffused, or spread, among many people. Our hypothesis is about to analyse whether one sex is much prosocial than the other, as it is standard in the literature (Croson and Gneezy, 2009). hands are more possible to help a stranger in need than women (e.g. Bryan and Test, 1967 Ehlert et al., 1973 Gaertner and Bickman, 1971. Graf and Riddle, 1972 Latane, 1970 Morgan, 1973) contrasty the evidence that fe manlike reacts more than men to social and emotional stimuli in many contexts (see e.g. Brody and Hall, 2008, or McManis et al., 2001, among many others). Secondly, whether people are pronto come forth to help the said(prenominal) gender or the opposite. As the more people were deposit under time pressure, the less likely they were to help (Darley and Batson, 1973).Thirdly, we hypothesize testing helping behaviour with regard to mobility and state dispositions of the individual. To deduce the consistency with the above mentioned this paper is presented by a field st udy.MethodplayerThe participants in this field study were 40 Common unglamorouss roaming around nearrset plantation Area, Singapore, about morning 11.30 AM on a Friday. To maintain standard uniformity the participants were randomly chosen from both genders (20 manly and 20 female) who were either mobile or Stationary (20 Walking, 20 Sitting or Standing) ranging from young adults to adults. We overly assigned two young adult henchmans of both genders one native and one non-native person.Materials and ProcedureIn this study, we have divided into two groups with one confederate of a gender and an observer with him/her, both the groups make the experiment at the same time and almost closer location, to ensure the results independent of time and location. The confederate showed a battery drained mobile phone to the participant to build their reputation and approached the participants requesting as salvage me, hi, Im supposed to be meeting a friend but my phone has safari out of battery. Would you mind if I borrowed your phone to make a quick call. Then the observers out of the participants sight had recorded their reactions on gender, responses or replies, age range and mobility categories.ResultInterpretationsThe results were as follows, among the total 40 participants, 20 were approached by each gender confederate, so it is necessary to examine the results individually first to wedge a general result, when the confederate is a female the result ranges as 7 males of total 10 male (4 stationary) were readily offered the help plot of land 6 female of 10 (4 stationary) had offered, in total 13 (65%) people helped. When the confederate is a male, 5 male out of 10 were ready to help (3 Stationary) and 4 females of 10 helped (3 Stationary), in total 9 people (45%).In general 12 males out of 20 and 10 females of 20 lend their mobile phone. So 60% of male were tend to help a stranger while 50% of female does of 12 male and 10 female with positive response 14 w ere stationary (7 male and 7 female, i.e. 58% of male and 70% of female) and 8 were moving (5 male and 3 female, i.e. 42% of male and 30% of female), and the participants expressed a range of responses for readily offering the help to offer help after an inquiry with some questions like Is that a Local call?, Some continued their helping patronage of their hurry as they committed to help while being stationary (i.e. While waiting at the pedestrian crossing). No noteworthy digressions were found in the responses with respect to nascency of the confederates as the experiment location Singapore is a multi-cultural country were discrimation according to race is widely curtailed.LimitationsIn particular, that when the details of the experiment are put into a more social frame, the appearance, approach and linguistic communication of the confederate may have an influence in the decision making of the participant, factors like the participants individualizedity traits (demographic char acteristics, personal motives and personality traits) situational constrains (the bystander is in are they in a hurry or do they have time to stop and help) environmental factors (Temperature, weather, crowd, culture) may also have critical influence on the helping behaviourDiscussionThe recorded data have been keenly observed to deduce the results as follows. Since the gender and mobility based differences are minimum, in order to elicit subtle conclusions the percentage differences are to be evaluated. When the confederate is a female, 65% of people tend to help while 45% offered when the confederate is male from this we may suffice that people tend to help a female than a male because of the stereotyping dispositions that helping a female is safe and secure than a male as detailed in the study the type of victim (drunk or ill) and the race of victim (black or white) effect on responding, frequency of responding and the race of the helper, the study also shows that gender is a fa ctor in helping behaviour, and that there was no race distinction. Gender and race are both dispositional factors (Piliavin et al, 1969). When a situation to help others arises 60% male were readily willing while 50% of female helped is consistent with our first hypothesis on whether one sex is more prosocial than the other. Men are more likely to help a stranger in need than women (e.g. Bryan and Test, 1967 Ehlert et al., 1973 Gaertner and Bickman, 1971. Graf and Riddle, 1972 Latane, 1970 Morgan, 1973). The Comparitively majority of people, despite of gender was tending to give hand for a help when they were stationary than in a parkway which is exactly consistent with the previous study that the more the people under time pressure, the less likely they were to help (Darley and Batson, 1973), But the hypothesized bias on helping behaviour according to gender (i.e. helping same or opposite gender) was not significantly detected.ConclusionConsistent with previous studies, we can con clude that male are more likely to help strangers than female, and in sum, the people were more ready to offer help to a female than a male and the state of mobitity indeed have a significant difference in helping behaviour proving that people tend to help others in their happiness and relaxed state.ReferenceWade, Carole Tavris, Carol.
